Awards

The following are his successes through awards for the books he has written and illustrated, one being his own memoir, Stitches.

Awards:
  • The Library – 1995 ABBY Award Honor Book, 1995 The New York Times Outstanding Book of the Year
  • The Gardener – 1997 Caldecott Honor, 1997 ABBY Award Honor Book & 1998 The Christopher Medal 
  • So You Want To Be President? – 2001 Caldecott Honor
  • The Underneath – 2008 National Book Award Finalist
  • That Book Woman – 2009 Christopher Award
  • Stitches – 2009 National Book Award Finalist

  1. I think it’s great that Stitches has received so much acclaim, this link talks about how Stitches: A memoir by David Small is only the second comics work to receive this distinction. This is a pretty significant accomplishment, as it will help to recognize graphic novels as more than just a picture book. Graphic novels are a fantastic way to say what words cannot even begin to describe.
